D&D Story Mode is an unofficial collection of variants designed to make the game easier to run. It also adds elements of cinematic storytelling to help you create games that feel more like movies and novels.
The Player’s Handbook is not required — you can use these rules with the free Basic D&D Rules or the D&D Starter Set.
Of course, you’re free to use as much or as little of these ideas as you want for your own game. Let me know what you think!
D&D Story Mode was created by Joe Lesko in 2017.
Joe grew up near Lake Geneva, WI, where D&D was born, and started playing (and making up rules) when he was about 7 years old.
He currently works as a user interface designer/engineer, and is the creator of Fabletop, a web-based virtual tabletop with a built-in chat-based RPG system.
D&D is a product of Wizards of the Coast, LLC.
